Marathas and Vijaynagar
A Thread🧵
Many chiefs of Vijaynagar forces at the Battle of Talikota were Marathas.
Ramraja Bakhar says that innumerable Kshatriya Vazirs arrived along with their troops under Ramraya & gives a list of those wounded & killed. Majority are Marathas.
These innumerable Kshatriya Vazirs meant vassals of Maratha & Rajevar(Ramaraya's caste) castes. Rajevar names like are Deva Raju also feature.
Jagtipatirao and Suranarao can also be Telugu chiefs but the likes of Raja Hansaji, Sulatanjirao, Bhujangrao are Marathas.
A Bakhar of More Chandraraos of Jawali mentions old Maratha families of Southern Maharashtra & Konkan as vassals of Vijaynagar Empire. They joined Adilshahi only in mid 16th century.
They were Mhaswad Manes, Surve, Bankapur Kadams, Ghatge Zunzarrao, Salunkhe, Shinde Ravirao etc
A Dalvi/Dalavoy of Bhonsle clan is mentioned from the side of Vijaynagar Ramraya in the Bakhar of Rakshasa Tagdi.
The Bhonsle Dalvis, a junior branch of Sawantwadi Rajas are well known.
