“Master of Change by Brad Stulberg”
A deeply profound and revitalizing read that will help you embrace change and grow in its midst - with its actionable suggestions, you will become better and wiser. A timely read at current times!
9 lessons from the book 🧵
1) Research shows that, on average, people experience 36 disorder events in course of their adulthood - or about one every 18 months.
LIFE IS FLUX.
2) Embrace the non-dual thinking:
While some things in life truly are either/or,
many are both/and.
3) Adopt a being orientation:
A having orientation means that you define yourself by what you have and this makes you fragile.
A being orientation means you identify with the deepest part of yourself: your core values and our ability to respond to circumstances.
4) Practice tragic optimism:
It widens our inner aperture, creating space for us to hold an expansive range of feelings - which is an "accurate expectation" for what it means to be human.
5) Happiness equals reality minus expectations,
and suffering equals pain times resistance.
6) Though we cannot force meaning and growth, a few concrete tactics can help us to usher them in:
7) Learn Zanshin quality:
It allows for the perception of an object or goal and the field surrounding it at the same time.
8) Respond to the CHANGE with 4Ps:
pause -> process -> plan -> proceed
9) Lean on routines to provide stability during periods of disorder:
The best way to develop an optimal routine is through astute self-awareness and experimentation.
