Reclaiming Gyanvapi:
In 1669, Aurangzeb destroyed Kashi Vishvanath which is the holiest place of Hindus.
For the next 300 years, Hindus constantly fought multiple battles for Vishvanath.
They laid down their lives & sacrificed everything.
This thread(🧡) tells their story!
Aurangzeb's first invasion of Kashi Vishvanath took place in 1664.
He proceeded with his army but was stopped by Dashnami & Naga Sadhus.
A battle took place from morning to evening.
Even with less number & poor equipment, Sadhus fought very bravely & decimated Aurangzeb.
Mughals came back again in 1669 with an imperial farman to demolish Kashi Vishvanath temple.
This time, they overpowered any resistance and destroyed the temple.
They also built the Islamic dome over it. This is known to everyone.
What is not known is that Hindus reclaimed it
Yes, Aurangzeb destroyed the temple. However, this did not mean that he was able to remove Hindus from the place.
In fact, stubborn Hindus refused to go anywhere. They came back the moment imperial army left.
They visited the Gyanvapi structure & worshiped Shiva in the dome
The Rajput king Maharaja Bhava Singh of Rewa worshiped Vishvanath in 1672. 3 years AFTER Aurangzeb destroyed the temple & built a mosque
Maharana Jagat Singh in 1677.
Aniruddha Singh in 1695.
Mughals were unable to stop Hindus from praying in Gyanvapi.

@obsolete_utopia In 1809, Gosain Sadhus attacked Gyanvapi Mosque.
They evicted MΞΌslims of the place after a battle. They began performing Karseva & setting fire.
MΞΌslim leaders of Gyanvapi begged the aid of British. It was only British army which was able to stop them after a long battle.
@obsolete_utopia Muslims of Varanasi had filed a petition in 1811.
From the petition, we see that Hindu Murtis were placed inside the Masjid and Hindu ritual worship was taking place.
