That Lineup:
For most of this game, we will be playing in Brentford’s half with the ball—that’s why I think Pep is trying to gain 6vs5 numerical superiority in the final 3rd.
More bodies in the last line which help us in counter-pressing as much as in possession.
Despite Foden on the left suggesting a touchline role, I think he could drift into the left half space (from LW) with De Bruyne in the right half space.
Haaland pinning CBs back—creating space for Alvarez (who will shadow him in zone 14) and Phil / Kevin.
That fluctuation of width from Phil and narrowness of wide players could result in wide spaces being vacated for late wing back arrivals from Gvardiol and Walker.
Creating a 6vs5 in the last line:
Haaland
Gvardiol-Phil-Alvarez-KDB-Walker
I think the timing of arrivals from Gvardiol / Walker (wing backs) will be key.
I don’t think Foden will stay on the touchline, rather fluctuating width to accommodate extra bodies to create a 6vs5. Alvarez / Haaland partnership too.
