The paper is not saying that horses originated in 2000 BCE. It is saying the MDH originated in that period. So what was the difference between the old lineage & MDH?

The information towards the end of the abstract becomes interesting. The paper rejects the spread of horse & IE languages in 3000 BCE & believes that the Indo Iranian languages together with the MDH spread in early 2nd ml BCE.
This means that starting 2 ml BCE the older horse populations of Asia, including India were replaced by the MDH. Horses were already present in India & were replaced by the MDH.
