In 1926 Mahmud Nawaz Khan, a retired official, founded the Majlis-i-Ittehad-ul-Mussu!meen.

A little later, the Nizam spotted one Bahadur Khan at an assembly of Muslims, Mehfil-e-Milad as it was called, as an able man and elevated him to the dignified name of Bahadur Yar Jung and called upon him to lead the Majlis-i-Ittehad-ul-Mussu!meen [MIM]
