Gakpo is a special talent who has largely been used as a 'filler' at Liverpool behind the likes of Salah, Núñez, and Díaz.
When you assess him qualitatively, he can do *everything*, but he has yet to become a big character at Liverpool and fight his way in.
He is too selfless.
Gakpo is at his best when he plays on the left wing and gets lots of touches. We saw him there away at Burnley & he was nothing short of frightening.
However, in the #9, he can have a great impact, but he often *sticks* positionally & plays as more of a jack-of-all trades type.
This is a good quality to have and it showcases tactical discipline, and, in theory, he should be able to transition into a Mané-type #9, but Mané had personality - he used to rival Salah.
Gakpo isn't putting it up to Salah & Núñez. He doesn't do it for the national team either.
So, for Gakpo to truly fulfil his talent, he needs to become an arrogant 'main man' type.
All top attackers have it.
Self-belief and confidence is a staple in all walks of life, and that is no different in elite level sport when it comes to making the biggest possible impact.
