In general the streets are clean and pleasant and is lively city. Didn’t see the horror stories spread online …

Some typical intersections on a Wednesday or Thursday I forget; granted it’s a popular neighborhood but I found it to be a lively city. Many nice cafes are full of young French people, which was not the case eg in Rio
More day walking. Paris has grand architecture and too many tourists in general but it escapes the fate of “museum towns” in Yurop (Dubrovnik and Toledo the worst I’ve seen, but Budapest very much wants to become). It’s a real city with locals who are there to work and live etc…

Encounter Putler on walk
Maybe most inconvenient part of Paris is getting around. Traffic nonstop and at peak hours can take 40 min-1 hr to get from one side of center to another in taxi. Subway is OK but very crowded. Half the street taken by aggressive bikers; and I hear efforts are to make this worse
You see occasional homeless and a tent but you have to look for them and I walked every day for hours, including long distances alone at night. As someone who lives part of year in Rio, Paris is just nothing like that.
Paris isn’t as clean and orderly as Madrid. It’s also not as French as Madrid is Spanish. You see too much beigeiad and in general too many ugly and slovenly people who aren’t French. But too many foreigners in general, including from East Yurop, Azia etc, unpleasant to see
That said Paris is also full of French people who live there including full of French kids. The atmosphere is very lively, on multiple nights I had great fun going to random bars full of young people who try to talk to you. In some smoking ban is ignored. It seems healthy city…
