This person claims that Bhojashala is 'biggest fraud of Indian history'.
She further claims that 'Bhojashala' was coined only 70 years ago. That it had never existed before.
That there is no inscription or text predating 20th century that mentions any Sarasvati temple or Bhojashala at Dhar.
Is this really true?
This thread does a Fact Check
The first text I cite is Prabhavakacarita. This text was composed by Prabhācandra in 1277.
It describes an incident which occurred around the year 1140.
The Chalukya king Siddharaja Jayasimha attacked Dharanagara (Dhar). There, he met a group of students studying in what the text calls 'Bhoja's Pathashala'
This is an extract from Page 156 of Prabhavakacarita.
There is a rather elaborate description of Bhojashala.
The text says this school/university taught the grammar established by Bhoja himself (तत्र व्याकरणं श्रीमद् भोजराजविनिर्मितम्)
It must be remembered that the great Paramara king Bhoja wrote a treatise on Sanskrit grammar named Sarasvatīkaṇṭhābharaṇa
The text further says that the students here were taught day and night rigorously. For this purpose, all the wise people assemble there (मिलन्ति सुधियः सर्वे तत्राकारणमागमत्‌).
The text further tells us this institution had a learned man named 'Vutasarasvati'. The students say that they also join the discussion with this teacher.
This educational institution in Dhar is described in the text as Bhoja's Pathashala.
The words used to describe the institution are 'Vidyapeetha' and 'pathashala' leaving no doubt that we are talking about Bhojashala
The next evidence is an inscription that was found right inside the so called 'Kamal Maula Mosque' in Dhar.
This inscription is published by ASI in Epigraphia Indica Volume 8. It was issued by Paramara King Arjunavarman (c. 1215 CE)
The text of this inscription is a Sanskrit drama named Parijatamanjari. The inscription says this drama was performed at 'Sarasvati temple' in Dharanagara (Dhar).
The inscription says the play has to be enacted only in the temple of Sarasvati at Dhar.
The temple is described as pearl necklace of Shringara of the damsel of the city of Dhar.
The Saraswati temple is described as the chief of all temples in the eight four squares of the city of Dhar.
It is to be noted that this inscription was recovered from the Mihrab of Kamal Maula Mosque.
Typically, plays were inscribed on the temple walls so that the actors could read the dialogues while they performed.
As the inscription has been recovered in situ, it shows without doubt that Kamal Mosque Mosque was indeed the Sarasvati temple of the inscription found inside it.
The Sarasvati temple of Dhar was very famous.
It was also mentioned in Prabandhacintāmaṇi of Merutunga (c. 1304)
Merutunga addresses the temple by its name 'Sarasvatīkaṇṭhābharaṇa'. The temple had taken the name of Bhoja's treatise.
As a final nail in the coffin, these serpentine inscriptions were found INSIDE Kamal Maula Mosque.
These inscriptions depict alphabets and grammatical rules in form of snakes. This was to enable students to easily memorize the grammatical rules.
This clearly shows that Kamal Maula mosque was earlier a Sanskrit college (which also housed a temple to Goddess of learning like most Sanskrit schools) before its conversion.
To summarize, there are many texts and inscriptions before 20th century which mention Sarasvati temple as well as Bhoja's school in Dhar.
Thus, this claim is demonstrably wrong
While the coinage of the word 'Bhojashala' might be recent, it makes no difference as the texts have भोजस्य पाठशाला which is exactly the same.
Sheldon Pollock of Harvard university is the biggest intellectual of the western Indologist cabal.
Even he accepts the presence of Bhojashala. He says it functioned as a school and literary center in the Paramara capital city of Dhara.
From: "Bhoja's school is the biggest fraud which never existed"
To: "Bhoja's school existed and was attacked"
Happy to educate.
