Lost Kingdoms of Northwest India
(A Thread)
Many kingdoms have been straight up vanished from history can't even call them less popular because because there's no proper material to study on them either. In this thread i will cover some of these kingdoms.
The Audumbaras: They held dominion over regions including Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Basohli (Jammu), and Chamba.
Their coins were discovered within the Pathānkot . They revered Mahādeva/Shiva along with Kārtikeya as their divine entities.
Yaudheyas: They are first mentioned in Panini's Ashtadhyaai and Varahamihira's Brihat Samhita.
They had a republic form of government and their rule comprised of 3 republics with Rohtak , panchala and Northern Rajasthan as the respective capitals.
They were devotees of God Kartikeya and were known for their bravery.
an inscription mentioning appointment of "mahasenapati" as leader of yaudheyas.
Inscription of Rudradaman I calls Yaudheyas as hero amongst all Kshatriyas.
Kingdoms from the records of hiuen tsang:
•Taxila (Rawalpindi)
•Sinhapura(Potohar)
•Urasa(Khyber Pakthunwah)
•Punach( Jammu)
•Rajapuri(Jammu)
•Tekka(Jammu with some parts of Nothern Punjab)
•Chinnabhukti (Amritsar region)
•Jalandhara(Kangra and doaba)
•Kuluta (Kullu Himachal)
•Satadru(Sirhind region)
Capital of Tekka Kingdom was Sialkot , they succeeded huns of Sialkot which were uprooted by Yashodharman.
Kingdom of Jalandhara was ruled by Katoch Rajputs with Jalandhar as capital and Kangra as its stronghold.
Alternative/traditional name for this kingdom is Trigarta as mentioned in Mahabharata they kept their territories intact until losing Jalandhar to Mughals.
One of the most remarkable achievement of this dynasty was when tughlaq sent an army to invade china via hill pass they were all defeated by Katoch Rajputs regardless of army strength only 10 returned alive.
Kingdom of Bhatinda : once ruled by Maharaja Shatruganadeva judging from record available we can assume his fame was high and his sons were famous for their charitable acts.
Hindu Shahi Dynasty: They fought invaders all the time and acted as a blockade to the mainland india as glorious as their bravery and resistance was they had a very devastating end as stated in Rajtarangini (a seperate thtead covering all this will be made some other day).
