I grew my vending business to $15,000/month in 2023.
If I had to start over from 0 & wanted to do it again in 2024…
Here’s exactly what I’d do (Bookmark This):
1. Find a location in my city.
I’d google the following locations within 30 minutes of me:
• Apartment complexes
• College/University campuses
• Businesses with 100+ employees
& make a list of each one's email/phone numbers.
After I make my list, I’d move on to step 2:
2. Call/Email my list.
Ideally, I’ll have a list of 50-100 locations from step 1.
I’d start calling and/or emailing each location.
I’ll simply introduce myself & ask 3 questions:
1. How many people/occupants are there in your building?
2. What current amenities do you provide residents/employees with?
3. Have you had a resident/employee complain they don’t have snack/drink options available?
I’d get them talking about their problems/pain points.
After I call/email enough locations, eventually I’ll get 1 or more that have these pain points.
When they tell me they have no current amenities and/or have had residents complain about lack of food/drinks…
I’ll provide myself & my vending machine(s) as the answer.
3. Get a meeting.
After I respond with my solution of a vending machine, I’ll ask for a meeting to discuss in person.
Before the meeting, I’ll create a 1-page flyer about my vending machine & benefits.
Once I’m in the meeting, I’ll explain the value my machines will bring:
• Happy residents
• No employees required
• Better amenities compared to the competition
If I do this properly, I’ll get at least 1 location to agree.
Then I’ll tell them I’ll send them a contract & product proposals after I leave.
4. Order my machine.
The best places to get vending machines are:
• Vending(.)com
• Cantaloupe(.)com
• Craigstlist(.)com (Used)
• VendingConnection(.)com
I’d order a food/drink combination machine to be delivered to the location.
It should take 2 weeks to be delivered.
For new machines, companies like Cantaloupe & VendingConnection give you the option to finance for $0.
So I'd utilize that option to get my first machine (I still do this now after 15 machines).
5. Stock the vending machine.
On the day the machine is being delivered, I’d go to Costco & pick up stock to fill the machine.
I’d bring the stock to the location & meet the delivery people to set the machine in place.
I’ll use my experience (you can use YouTube videos) to set up & stock the machine.
I’ll make sure the:
• Stock is in correctly
• Card reader works
• Machine runs from start to finish
It should look something like this:
Now that my first vending machine is in place...
The sales will start coming in.
But since I want to scale as quickly as possible, I'd do 2 things:
• Ask the property manager if they have more locations that need vending
• Start calling/emailing similar locations in my area
Doing those 2 things is exactly how I've grown my vending biz passed $15k/month.
It's a game of volume & intensity.
I'd use my first machines profits to reinvest in more machines for any new locations I find.
Then rinse & repeat that process as many times as I want.
My next move would be to get into Micromarkets & Smart Coolers.
They're in high demand right now & can make a lot of revenue a month ($5000+).
I'd reach out to my current locations offering an upsell to these machines...
& To new locations framing them as "Luxury amenities".
These are the places I'd purchase my Micromarkets & Smart Coolers from:
• Canteen(.)com
• Stockwell(.)com
• Cantaloupe(.)com
• 365retailmarkets(.)com
& That's how I'd start from 0 in 2024.
I truly believe anyone can do this using the blueprint I just gave you.
What's stopping you from building your vending empire this year? 🤔
