Many people asked me this question that if Ambedkar wanted to convert to Islam initially, why did he later wrote against Islam in his book Pakistan & Partition?
When did he change his views? What made him change his stand against Islam?
THREAD 🧵 Story behind Ambedkar’s change in mind about Islam.
P.S his change of mind against Islam wasn’t any form of love towards Hindus.
Throughout his life he ws confused about which religion to choose from.
Let us first look at the Timeline:
1927- he wanted to convert to either Christianity or Islam
1929- he dropped Christianity & settled for islam. Many of his followers converted to islam because of him.
1935 - after being mistreated by Muslims he dropped Islam & convert to sikhism. He realised his ambitions wont be fulfilled if he converted to islam.
1956 - Finally settled for Buddhism.

Amby used to lie that he was drawn to Buddhism from childhood after reading a book Buddha vichara.
The truth is he would have happily converted to Islam & because of his influence many from his community had already embraced Islam.

Once, when he and his people during a trip to Daulatabad, washed their arms & legs in a well that belonged to Muslims, Muslims started shouting on them that they polluted the water tank.
They also humiliated Amby & his people by saying “They have become arrogant & must be taught a lesson”
The Mohamedans kept abusing Ambys & they feared there could be riots and possibly morders.
Unlike what Amby believed, Muslims werent so kind to him.
After Ambys declared that what they did was by mistake & they wanted to enter the fort, Mohamedans treated him in a very discriminatory way with humiliation.
They only allowed them to enter the fort on the condition that a,bys wont touch any water inside the fort. Armed guards accompanied them inside to ensure they dont touch water.
Babasaheb got infuriated with this treatment and asked them if they will be treated as untouchables if they convert and embrace Islam.
This incident made him change his mind and he dropped his intention of converting to Islam.
