Theory: there was more good television when channels were limited, because sometimes consumers would be forced to watch something good just because it was on, rather than choosing to watch garbage
Just thinking that something like Justice League Unlimited was being watched by tons of children just because it was on & this juiced the numbers beyond what they’d’ve been if only fanatics tuned into it.
Reality TV was due to proliferation of cable channels incentivizing a race to the bottom in terms of budget against viewership— the beginning of algorithm slop. “Turns out people prefer garbage to quality.”
