1. Clarity
Plan the day the night before.
You want to build momentum early on.
For that, you need clarity.
Don't start your day in planning mode - but in execution mode.
I schedule 3+ tasks for the day and start with the most important task.

I schedule 3+ tasks for the day and start with the most important task.
This has the neat benefit of making me feel good about myself - an early win - that keeps me motivated throughout the whole day.
2. Overstimulation
Reduce your caffeine, nicotine, and neurotropic consumption over time.
My goal is to be a natural high performer.
If you rely on crutches to perform at your best, you're essentially a drug addict.
Taper off that stuff.

Taper off that stuff.
This might hurt your performance in the short term but will increase it in the long run.
You'll also feel better about yourself and have additional mental clarity during rest periods.

3. Digital environment
Turn off all notifications on your phone and computer.
Set up greyscale on your phone - this will make your phone a lot more boring and less desirable to check.
I only allow sounds when people call me or WhatsApp's from my mom (break rules gracefully).

Nothing can knock you out of a flow state or break deep focus faster than a (useless) notification.
Prevention is the best cure.

4. Deadlines
I recently re-read the biography of Elon Musk.
One of his secrets?
Extreme deadlines.
Always set yourself a deadline for tasks.
This will increase the stakes and put you into "let's crush it" mode.
I even like to turn this into a game.

One key thing to understand here is that you have to overcome your fear of failure - not making the deadline.
This is okay - don't let that stop you from setting those - been stuck there myself too.

5. Biology
You have to optimize your biological inputs to allow your body to perform at its peak.
This means sleeping for 7+ hours and eating healthy.
The key here is experimentation.
Try to optimize your sleep routine and diet for yourself - don't copy what others do.

I have experimented with dieting for 5+ years and perform at my best when I only eat meat, eggs, and green vegetables or salad.
Find out what works for you - everyone is highly specific.

That's why many of my coaching clients end up stuck.
They just copy-paste popular self-help routines that don't work for them.
You are unique - which means you need a personalized solution.
Be a scientist - experiment and optimize.
