@noltes_pasfyn @UfoHitch I said "if dumb" because there's a fascinating academic literature in Japan about Brazilian immigrants who grow up bilingual but aren't smart enough so end up "halflingual", i.e. can't speak either language properly.
Anathema in Western academic circles where everyone's smart.

@noltes_pasfyn @UfoHitch I don't mean western academics are all smart I mean they operate under the fiction that all humans are above average and can do anything if they only buy their textbooks and take debt to pay their tuition.
