@DanaDooDah It is curious, though I was inclined to read it differently: She might have simply been trying to reassure Krassner that his "satire" piece was nothing more than that, and didn't accidentally hit on something real that put him in actual danger.

@DanaDooDah Obviously we know in retrospect that he hit on something very real. However, I think it's reasonable that at the time, Mae wouldn't have been aware of it (very few people were). With what she did know at the time, it's a reassurance that could make sense for her to offer.

@DanaDooDah The worst that could be said in that case is that it's a pretty naive view for Mae to take: why would Scientology freak out this like over something which would otherwise be too absurd to even believe? If so, definitely shortsighted but not willfully disinformational.
