"I will kill myself and the children if you will not convert to Islam," said Ladli Khatun to her husband Krishna Giri. She left Giri's home on May 16 after failing to persuade him to conversion.
Giri and Ladli got married in 2016 in an Arya Samaj temple, where she changed her name to Pooja. They stayed away from their town for four years and only returned after Ladli reconnected with her family.
Upon their return to Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, Ladli and her family began pressuring Giri to have a nikah and convert to Islam. Giri initially complied but soon regretted his decision and did Ghar Wapsi with Ladli.
However, she has since continued to pressure him to convert. Giri has filed a complaint against Ladli, alleging that she intends to have their son circumcised.
The police found and recovered Ladli yesterday, but the children are still with her.
The court is scheduled to hear the case on May 27.
