Happy Fathers' Day πŸ™
When you think about your Dad,
Here are some things to remember:
β€’ He won’t be here forever
We always think we have more time, but the truth is we have limited time.
We only have so many good years with our father, use them:
β€’ Give him a call
β€’ Let go of your anger
β€’ Go on that vacation together
Make the most of what you have left.
β€’ He never stops worrying
We think our dads are so strong.
They are the rock whose shoulders We cried on.
They never showed their emotions.
The truth is, he:
β€’ hurts
β€’ is scared
β€’ worries about you
He just doesn't show it to you.
Let him know you see it.
β€’ He struggled in silence
We are taught to suffer in silence.
Our fathers and grandfathers came back from the wars.
They didn't show their emotions and weren't there for us.
He doesn't know how to share emotions.
Ask him.
Be open with him.
Tell him you're here to listen.
β€’ He sacrificed for you
Our fathers sacrifice for us.
Whether its:
β€’ time
β€’ money
β€’ their dreams
Those all get put aside when we have our children.
You may not have seen it, but there would have been times he did without for you. For his child.
It's what dads do.
β€’ He worked for you
We complain our dad missed our games.
We complain that he didn't make it for dinner enough.
When we become adults, we realize why.
He was working to pay for:
β€’ food
β€’ clothes
β€’ housing
He did it for his family.
It's what he was taught to do.
β€’ He did his best
Of course, our dads made mistakes.
They didn't know any better at the time.
I was hit by a car when I was 5 years old, because dad left me alone.
His father was verbally and physically abusive.
He did his best.
Every generation, better.
β€’ He taught you
We are shaped by our fathers.
Their words. Their actions.
We hear them.
We see them.
We become them.
You are who you are, because of him.
When you wonder about certain behaviors, look at him, watch for them, and smile.
β€’ He loved you
A lot of men don't share emotions.
They may not tell you that they love you.
He may not have been physically affectionate or given you words of affirmation.
It simply may not be what he was taught,
but know that he loved you.
β€’ Forgive him
He made mistakes, 100%.
Some mistakes can't be healed.
Some mistakes should never be forgiven.
You have to ask yourself, though, whether those are the mistakes he made.
This is a question only you can answer and if it can be,
Reach out to him.
Let it go.
β€’ Thank him
You are you,
because he was him.
If you're happy with who you are,
Reach out to him and say thank you for making me, me.
Music to a father's ears:
I Love You, Dad.
It's why we do what we do.
β€’ Call him
If there is one thing I want you to take out of this thread, it's this:
Call your father.
Let him know what's in your heart.
All he wants is to hear from his children.
He wants to know you're:
β€’ safe
β€’ happy
β€’ content
It will hold him over until next year.
TL;DR:
When you think of your dad today, remember:
β€’ He won’t be here forever
β€’ He never stops worrying
β€’ He struggled in silence
β€’ He sacrificed for you
β€’ He worked for you
β€’ He did his best
β€’ He taught you
β€’ He loved you
β€’ Forgive him
β€’ Thank him
β€’ Call him
