“bro, wat is layerzero”
No $ZRO airdrop for you but an explanation of @LayerZero_Labs, in (very) simple terms. 🧵
“so?”
The LayerZero protocol provides developers with the necessary tools to send messages across blockchains.
It supports censorship-resistant messaging and enables permissionless development through immutable smart contracts.
“yooo wtf?”
LayerZero solves a crucial problem in this space: interoperability.
As you are aware, blockchains are like to small islands. They can either remain isolated or choose to open up to the world.
“huh?”
If a blockchain wants to interact or communicate with another blockchain, it needs a way to do so.
LayerZero provides such a solution. It enables applications to transfer data across blockchains, or if you prefer, to send messages from chain A to chain B.
“example?”
A use case enabled by LayerZero is the OFT standard. It's similar to an ERC20 token but without asset wrapping or middlechains.
This means your ILY token won’t need to be converted to wILY or bridged at all.
“something else?”
Well, basically everything. LayerZero allows developers to build Omnichain Apps, enabling the sending and receiving of arbitrary pieces of data between contracts on different blockchains.
In short, you can send whatever you need to another blockchain.
“whatever?”
LayerZero is censorship-resistant. No entity filters the messages; all messages will go through.
Additionally, the core contracts are immutable, meaning they will never change or be upgraded.
It's as if the liquidity of your favorite shitcoin had been burned.
“who use that?”
The two biggest consumers of LayerZero messages are Stargate and Merkly.
Both are bridges that enable users to send tokens from one chain to another.
“tldr"
Think of LayerZero as a facilitator for data transfer between chains.
Whether it's moving tokens or data, LayerZero enables applications to interact with other chains, eliminating isolation.
