Is Starbucks scamming?
Recently I observed strange correlations between Starbucks cup sizes & calories. which looked like a scam, let me explain👇
( A thread )
Starbucks’ drink sizes are a classic case of decoy pricing,
Grande (473ml) is 2X of Short (237ml), but the pricing of a Grande Cup would only be ~20% higher than Short Cup's price, It nudges customers to buy the bigger cup, as a value-for-money option
But ... 👇

But ... the bigger Starbucks cup is NOT value for money, why?
I was at Starbucks recently, reading their menu when this caught my eye.👇

Look at the Ginger Ale Cold Brew:
A tall cup (354ml) is 50% bigger than a Short cup (237ml). But the Tall cup has 141 calories, just 8% more than the Short cup’s 130 calories.
How’s that possible?

If the cup size increases, the calories must also go up in the same proportion. But it does not happen,
The Venti cup is 25% bigger than the Grande but has just 7% more calories.

Maybe, with the cold brews calories work differently, but the phenomenon is the same for almost all other drinks too,
Check out Chai Tea Latte.
A Tall cup is 50% bigger than a Short cup but only has 17% more calories. Why the Calories do not match up with the cup sizes?
6/n
This is only possible when extra water/ ice fill the bigger cups, as water has zero calories.
Otherwise, the calories should increase proportionately with the cup size.
