Sa'd bin Ubada said:
"If I found a man with my wife, I would kill him with the sharp side of my sword."
When the Prophet ﷺ heard that, he said:
"Do you wonder at Sa`d's sense of Ghayrah?
Verily, I have more sense of Ghayrah than Sa'd, and Allah has more Ghayrah than I."
Ghayrah (غَيْرَة) is a complex Arabic word that encompasses the concept of protective jealousy or displeasure when someone else shares a right or privilege that belongs to oneself.
The depth and nuance of this word are not easily captured in a single English word, reflecting the richness of Arabic vocabulary compared to the sometimes limited expressiveness of English.
