Minimalism and why it isn't good for a civilization in the long run.
A short thread🧵
It started in the 1960s and has led us from....
this to this
I am not suggesting it is bad but it shouldn't become the norm.
Even our traditional values teaches us about being simple and humble. But, not at the cost of loosing our cultural identity.
Minimalism, as the name suggests its about being minimal whether in art, aesthetics, architecture or even life.
In 1960s, it started as a concern for the environment, now become a popular idea due to soaring prices and unaffordable living standards nowadays.
Now, you may ask how it is connected to civilization?!
Actually, it is. Minimalism in its basic sense promotes simplicity but if taken to extremes it rips off any civilization from its cultural heritage due to being monotonous and bland.
For instance, take our traditional architecture, it is not minimalist in any sense.
But if we push minimalist ideas too much (and also make it more affordable), then our rich traditional architecture will start receding slowly as we are now witnessing it in modern times.
Actually we need to find a balance between Minimalism & maximalism. Both have its own pros and cons.
Rather than dismissing minimalism outright we have to find a balance between the two on the basis of our needs.
