A lady in her twenties was brought in to the hospital. What happened? She was trying to get to Akwa Ibom from PH. She stopped someone to ask where she could get a bus going to Uyo, before she could get the info, she slumped down.
She was rushed to the hospital but she didn’t make it. She died. Just like that.
I heard some people arguing what could be the cause of her death in the hospital premises, an informed person amongst them said it’s likely going to be hypertension (high BP), that most people are walking time bomb, another person argued that the girl was too young to have high BP (I laughed at that idea, I didn’t try to interject, I had a rather draining day). The truth is, you’re not too young to get a high blood pressure. A lot of things could have resulted to that (the ladies death) but with how it happened it’s likely high blood pressure.
I shared how during a random medical outreach a man in his early 30s was walking with a blood pressure of 180/100mmHg, that’s a walking dynamite. A lot of people are like that, and one thing with high BP is, it’s a silent killer. You’re likely not to know what’s going on, next, one sleeps and doesn’t wake up, or one slumps and that’s it.
If you have a family history of hypertension (either your parents are dealing with hypertension or direct relatives) you have a high chance of developing hypertension, what should you do?
(1) Check your blood pressure and know what it is.
(2) Watch what you eat and do.
If you’re already hypertensive, consult your healthcare provider so you’re informed on what and what not to do.
With proper medication(s), diet, and lifestyle modifications, you will be fine.
