That's one of the craziest transformations I've seen, England today. Not only that they went from lowest activity to highest activity in the tournament, they also made this change with a super unconventional approach. They suddenly became super unpositional. FOUR free roles.
Foden, Bellingham, Kane and Mainoo are literally moving everywhere and even Rice and Walker move around a lot. It's just the two CBs and Trippier-Saka providing some frame. Within that, it's just free flowing freestyling. Mindblowing.
I guess the idea is to break the Dutch man-marking. They constantly need to change their orientation, get dragged around.
Practically, the English players stopped searching for positional advantages and look for advantages of movement and direction. It's fun.

(That approach is also quite wild, not perfectly executed, they often end up in some difficult, rather isolated situations, but then they can solve it often with their individual skills and turn disadvantages into advantages.)
Crazy that they're doing that without Kalvin Phillips!
