Mega-thread 🧵:
(1) Why Palestinians hate Assad
(2) How Assadists attack Palestinians and pretend to defend the Palestinian cause
Yarmouk, located in the Damascus suburbs, was the largest Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, with a population in excess of 137,000. Assad and his allies (including Hezbollah and Iran) besieged, starved, and depopulated Yarmouk. Its population was just 100 - 200 people in 2018.
Yarmouk was the capital of the Palestinian diaspora. Palestinians don’t mince words - they consider Assad the butcher of Yarmouk.
Palestinians made multiple documentaries on Yarmouk. I compiled clips from some of these in the linked thread.

Assadists have no answer to Yarmouk so they try to rewrite history, claiming Assad besieged it because it was occupied by ISIS. In fact, Assad began bombing Yarmouk in 2012. His starvation siege began in 2013. ISIS didn’t emerge in Yarmouk until 2015.

Bringing up Yarmouk is extremely awkward for Assadists. Most Assadists try to avoid the topic completely because it contradicts their claims that they are champions of the Palestinian cause. Many of Israel’s scorched-Earth tactics in Gaza were used by Assad in Yarmouk.
Assad likes to pretend that he has the support of Palestinians. This is fantasy.
Scientific polling by Pew Research Center’s Global Attitudes Survey in 2013 and 2014 show Palestinians HATE the Assad regime. 87% view Assad unfavorably (65-66% VERY unfavorably).
Notice the huge polling difference between Palestinians and Lebanese Shia (Hezbollah). Hezbollah is a key ally of Assad. Hezbollah, like other Assadists, claims to be a champion of the Palestinian cause and yet is out-of-touch with Palestinian views… and most of the Arab world.
So Palestinians were massacred by Assad and his allies, and as a result, Palestinians hate Assadists.
How do Assadists respond? They attack Palestinians while simultaneously writing fan-fiction that they are the patron saint of the Palestinian cause.
Assadist propaganda is vile but perhaps the most depraved trend is this:
Assadists will repost photos of Assad’s war crimes - which Assadists previously defended or denied - and claim these photos depict Israeli war crimes against Palestinians.
Assadists’ campaign to falsely attribute Assad’s war crimes as Israeli war crimes is pervasive and likely a deliberate campaign to obfuscate history.

Assadists also photoshop Israeli flags over Palestinian flags to try to depict the Syrian opposition (which has had some of the largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the Middle East) as siding with Israel. Palestinians aren’t fooled by Assadists, and most are pro-opposition.
Propaganda and photoshop failed to win Palestinian support for Assad, and many Palestinians continue to be outspoken critics of Assad. This is why Assadists viciously attacked Palestinians such as Rashida Tlaib, Omar Suleiman, and Quds News Network.
I’ll conclude with this:
Palestinians hate Assadists, and Assadists hate Palestinians.
Assadists want the Palestinian cause without the people, just like Israel wants Palestinian land without the people.
