One of the hardest things in trucking it's getting the right driver. Hiring a driver it's beyond whether the driver is a local or foreign driver. The are advantages and disadvantages on hiring a local or foreign driver.
You have reports of local drivers misbehaving and stealing loads as well as reports of foreign drivers misbehaving and stealing loads. Did you know that truck owners also misbehave and steal loads? Yes they do😅
Advantages of hiring a local driver most of the time as truck owner you feel you have a home advantage because his a local driver you will work well with the driver and they won't misbehave plus their existence is local and not easy for the driver to disappear with your assets.
Disadvantages of having a local driver when it comes to doing crossborder loads they turn to be inexpensive with other African countries on how they operate which can put the load and the truck at risk as some law enforcement or rebellious group of individuals
in other African countries especially in DRC might want money or take advantage of the driver because his not from their country especially a South African driver.
Advantages of hiring a foreign driver they have a vast of knowledge in trucking and driving in various African countries and others even posses mechanical knowledge due to being so exposed in the trucking industry.
Disadvantages of hiring a foreign driver it might be hard to trace them because their coming from another country.
How to solve this predicament?
Treat your drivers like family and like they are part of the team that's helping you grow your business. Pay them well not like they are your slaves. If you look after your drivers they will look after your truck even your business

in such a way that if they hear there are loads available they will connect you with the owner of the load to communicate with you for him as your driver to transport the load instead of him doing private trips without your knowledge.
Such a simple act of treating your drivers like family and team players in your business it can solve this issue of drivers misbehaving and stealing loads it has nothing to do with whether the driver is local or foreign driver. Please retweet
