The mobile ICBM TELs have become quite iconic for the Russian SMFs, but this was not always the case.
Temp-2S had a limited success and deployment, with 4th gen Topol being the first system to enter wide spread service.

However Topol development had issues and delays, leading to staggered deployment:
- 1985 first unit with fixed CP and interim launcher
- 1987 first unit with an interim mobile CP
- 1988 first unit with full structure and acceptance into service

While the use of the interim launcher (compare and contrast below) is somewhat known, the CP woes are less so.

One of the reasons for the delays in deployment were problems in development of the 4th gen NC3 system (Signal-A), on L5-7 (regiment, divizion, launcher)
The system offered better support for mobile operations than Signal-M deployed on Pioner, Temp-2S.
4/7
Together with the new navigation gear it made TELs autonomous - capable of launching from any point in the patrol route and without a separate local CP/CC.
Together with the ICT system and the survivable compute it allowed for retargeting against non planned targets.

Note NC3 equipment.
In base a TEL can be connected to the NC3 by cable, in its Krona shelter.
6/7
However during Soviet era Signal-A only made it to L4, with high levels of the system suffering from even greater delays than the lower ones, with full roll out completed only in mid 2010s.
