Thread about (beating women shubha)
1- the verse is talking about a woman that starts problems and becomes disobedient in things which are the rights of the husband ,So in Islam there're rights; things which are the rights of the husband. So the woman has certain rights she needs to fulfil to the husband.
2-And her husband has certain rights he needs to fulfil to the wife,So both of them can become ناشز Both of them can become disobedient from that sense, Allah also in The Quran in the same Surah he speaks about the man, if he does نشوز what does the woman does.
3- So it's not only the woman. A man can leave his rights and a woman can leave her rights So Allah says then this disobedient how do you deal with her? What does Allah say in the first thing He says: فَعِظُوهُنَّ . What does عظوهن mean? give them advice
4- speak to them nicely, advise them nicely, and Allah says ف And الفاء here is for (ترتیب ) Order ,So these things have to be done in order. You cannot jump to step three before step two and you cannot jump to step two before step one
5- So the first thing is فَعِظُوهُنَّ does Allah say any time period? Does Allah sayفعظوهن أسبوعا؟ (Advise them for week)?
No,he said it and left it open Which means you will give advice until you're sure that the advice isn't working anymore, then you can move into the next step
6-Now everyone knows his wife, you know your wife, you know when what you're saying she doesn't care anymore about what you are saying Then you move to the step two : وَاهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِي الْمَضَاجِع ([then if they persist], forsake them in bed)
7- means that both of you will sleep in the same bed But you're not going to have intercourse with her
And that can be very psychologically impactful on a woman; because the woman then she feels she's not beautiful she's not desired.
8- He is literally next to her but he's not even engaging with her.
And then the last thing it says
Now this is the part where you want to talk about
And then Allah says:
9- فإن أطعنكم فلا تبغوا عليهن سبيلا إن الله كان عليا كبيرا (But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allah is ever Exalted and Grand)
Allah finishes the verse very strongly there, Allah says:
إنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عليا كبيرا
(Allah is above and Almighty)
10- Which means do not think that you do something to that woman if she now obeys and she stops being disobedient, You cannot ,now you have to remember that Allah is above you, and Allah is stronger than you, then you stop as Allah commanded you to stop
11- If she stops being disobedient.
Now this Idea وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ . In the Arabic language, ضرب does not mean necessarily a severe physical beating
In The Arabic language
you can research this
When Prophet Muhammad told us how to do تيمم (Tayammum: "dry ablution")
12- How do you do Tayammun?
So The Prophet says: Do ضرب )strike) in The Hadith so do we beat up the earth and the rock?
Or do we simply do like this👇?
So the word ضرب in The Arabic language can have different levels
13- So you cannot take it to the extreme without evidence that it can go to the extreme, especially when The Prophet told us explicitly ضرباً غير مبرح "( hitting which isn't severe and doesn't leave a mark nor break a bone nor do severe damage)
14- And Abdullah Ibn Abbas(cousin of the prophet) was asked what is ضرباً غير مُبَرّح he said بالسواك ونحوه (with Sewak and similar)
You know what The Sewak is? It's like the pen that they use for their teeth
So the way the verse is usually put completely out of context.
15- because you have to look at all of these things
First; it's not about all types of women, it's only about women who are not giving the husband his rights.
And that's an option of something you can do and you cannot do if you don't want to do
16- 2nd you have to go through the stages one by one and number 3 that what you call ضرب has very big restrictions
That you cannot hit the face, cannot leave a mark, cannot break a bone so it's not physical beating up like the Non-Muslims do in the west
When they drink Alcohol
17- When they drink Alcohol and Manchester United loses the match.
this is not what the Quran is talking about
May Allah be pleased with her) she reported from The Prophet..
She said The Prophet never beat any of his wives
18-lmam AsShafi'i said (the best of you are the ones who are never going to hit at all) So even that last option
it's not Allah saying; you have to do this, it's an option for some people to do
19- And Allah has placed restrictions on those men that they cannot go far and do something extreme
And the prophet said (The best of you are the ones who are the best to your families)
20- and I don't agree with the term "hit" I would say discipline. I wouldn't use the term hit, because "hit" in the English language implies very severe pain, which this verse does not include
21- And Allah says in the next verse something very important that maybe all of this is not going to work Allah says (Quran 4:35):
وَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ شِقَاقَ بَيْنِهِمَا فَابْعَثُوا حَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهِ وَحَكَمًا مِّنْ أَهْلِهَا إِن يُرِيدَا إِصْلَاحًا يُوَفِّقَ اللَّهُ بيْنَهُمَا
22- So after that, Allah is saying if you reach that stage it might not work even if you do some physical discipline and it didn't work
then Allah says what you do, so separation will take place.
22- Everything I said to you right now is in the Tafaseer (exegeses) Tafsir AtTabary who died in 310AH over a 1100 or 1200 years ago he's saying the same thing I'm saying. So this got nothing to do with my belief
And in that time there was no Feminism.
23- So they're not worried about what they say and what they don't say
And the one who said There is restrictions on ضرب is not me
it's The Prophet
