Having no bottles and no ovens reduced weight of Indigo planes and therefore costs
But those were not the only ways IndiGo has gone after shaving off load with a vengeance and continues to do so
Some really innovative ways through which Indigo saved money –

But do such small things matter?
An oven weighs 60 kg; four such ovens in the plane would lead to Rs 6000 worth of extra fuel per flight on avg.!
On the nearly seven lakh flights per year, a rough calculation pegs the savings of oven-less flights at Rs 400 Cr a year!

In 2015, IndiGo lobbied hard with the aviation regulator to become the first airline to launch Electronic Flight Bag reducing 25 kg paper on its planes by replacing paper charts/manuals with iPads!
This reduced their carbon footprint annually to the tune of ~2,500 tons!

In 2023, it received DGCA's permission to remove technical paper manuals weighing 40 kg each from the plane cockpits
Inside the cabin, IndiGo keeps a female-only 4-member crew to serve 180 pax - Jet Airways used to have both male (who weigh heavier) and female crew of 5/6

Indigo also asks its pilots to use only one engine while taxing on the runway instead of two, saving costly fuel
This is quite a smart tactic considering that Fuel makes up 40% of total operational cost for an airline in India

They also try to cut AC costs
On ground, the airline used to pull down all the window shades so the aircraft remains a little cooler

It also used to shut down the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) used in cooling the cabin when on ground.
It not only extended the life of the expensive APU but also enabled the use of the much cheaper diesel-operated Ground Power Unit (GPU) to keep the plane cool

Dmart is definitely the Dmart of Indian Skies –
