The debate over sending troops to #Ukraine, initiated by #Macron at a
3⃣meeting of #Kiev's allies in #Paris in February, was strongly opposed by some #European countries, led by #Germany. But it has been revived in recent weeks by #British Prime Minister #KeirStarmer's visit to #France for the November 11 celebrations.
4⃣"There are ongoing discussions between the #UK & #France about defense cooperation, in particular with a view to creating a strong core of allies in #Europe focused on #Ukraine and wider #European security," a #British military source told #LeMonde
5⃣In a Nov. 23 interview with the #BBC, #French FM Jean-Noël Barrot called on Western allies “not to set or express red lines” in their support for #Ukraine. When asked about the possibility of sending #French troops to the battlefield, he said: “We do not rule out any option.”
6⃣Meanwhile, #British company #Babcock, which already has a presence in #Ukraine, has approached Defense Conseil International (#DCI), the French Defense Ministry’s main operator for monitoring Arms Export contracts, to share its facilities.
7⃣In May, #Babcock announced that “work is underway” to establish a technical support facility in #Ukraine, “including the repair and overhaul of military equipment.”
