But have you ever heard about insurer-talk? 🧐
When it comes to their consumers, insurers too share (almost) everything among themselves!
Why is that important for you to know?
Let Radha’s story tell you…
Why is that important for you to know?
Let Radha’s story tell you…
It had been a while since Mahipal lost his life to an accident, but Radha, his wife, hadn’t left the habit of arranging his belongings.
While she was clearing one of her late husband’s drawers, she found an unclaimed life insurance policy that Mahipal bought just 5 months before his demise. 📃
While she was clearing one of her late husband’s drawers, she found an unclaimed life insurance policy that Mahipal bought just 5 months before his demise. 📃
The life insurance policy was with a sum assured of Rs 6 lakh, and additional Rs 6 lakh would be payable in case of accidental death.
She read through the papers and filed a claim for it.
She read through the papers and filed a claim for it.
Soon she received the insurance company’s reply, but it wasn’t what she expected.
The insurance company rejected the claim!
They said that Mahipal had a medical condition that he hid from not just them, but other insurers too, whom he had taken the policy from!
Other insurers?

Just like you, Radha, too, was shocked! 😱
She was unaware of any other policy since Mahipal never involved her in these matters.
But there was one thing she was aware of - Mahipal wasn’t suffering from any disease.
To fight for her belief, she took the matter to the Ombudsman. 👩⚖️

Reading through her complaint, the Ombudsman asked the insurer to narrate their side of the story.
And what they shared changed the whole case!

🏢 The insurer said that Mahipal lost life after 5 months of buying the policy.
Since it was an early claim, the insurer conducted an investigation.
Since it was an early claim, the insurer conducted an investigation.
🏢 Mahipal had a visible growth on his head, indicating a disease and was getting treated for the same before proposing for insurance from the company.
But in his declaration, he did not disclose anything about it.
🏢 If Mahipal had told the insurer about the disease, insurer wouldn’t have issued the policy in the first place.

🏢 Moreover during insurer’s investigation, they got to know that Mahipal had proposed for four other life insurance policies with another insurer.
And proposals for all of them were rejected, due to the non-disclosure of health issues, regarding the same visible growth on his forehead.

🏢 Along with these, he had two more health insurance policies with one more insurer.
🏢 Another shocking revelation was that Mahipal had previously proposed an insurance sum assured of Rs 90 lakhs with another insurer. But this proposal was also rejected because of the undisclosed health condition.

This should have been disclosed in the proposal form for the new policy, but Mahipal kept it hidden. 🧐
To support their argument, the insurer shared all the documents and proofs with the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman found the insurer’s story to be true.
By now, everyone knew what the verdict was gonna be…

*The Ombudsman hit the gavel on their desk, and said- *
“The death claim was rightly rejected by the insurer due to the deceased's failure to disclose previous insurance proposals and critical health issues.”
Case closed! ⚖️
