Huxley was crucified by literary critics for predicting this 100 years ago. The past century has served to slowly affirm him as a prophet; the end state of this vindication is the total rejection of his work, in progress now. x.com
Today Brave New World is taught as a high school book, which serves only to trivialize and neuter it. Its deeper and more salient points are lost β absorbed into transient, interchangeable, and contrived Discourse, not unlike the disposable world of its characters.
And of course none of Huxleyβs other works are read by almost anyone. They donβt fit the paradigm and are looked at with disinterest or confusion. John the Savage receives the same welcome: βhave a normal one, dude,β a response Huxley himself received in his day
Brave New World as a work of pseudo-performance art makes much more sense than Brave New World as a Dour Warning About the Evils of Pleasure, which is how it is presented today
