A thread 🧵
1. What’s in your perfume?
Perfumes don’t just contain nice scents; many also have chemicals called PHTHALATES.
These chemicals are added to make scents last longer. While that sounds good for your perfume, it may not be so good for your body.
🚨PLEASE READ TO THE END!
2. What makes these Phthalates bad?
🚨Phthalates are endocrine disruptors.
Let me break it down...,
Lets say they "mess with your hormones".
Hormones are like tiny messengers that control everything in your body, from your menstrual cycle to fertility. This chemical also affects the brain itself.
When something disrupts your hormones, it can throw everything off balance.
...are we on the same track? 👀
Because by now, you should have followed my post credit @Queenkuyikb.

3. How do phthalates interfere with your body?
✍️They mimic hormones in your body, confusing your reproductive system.
✍️They can stop normal hormone signals from working, affecting your menstrual cycle and ovulation.
✍️Over time, exposure to phthalates may even lead to irregular periods and reduced fertility.
In fact, in some women, it causes vaginally dryness; not being wet even when they are turned on....
4. When your hormones are out of balance, your menstrual cycle might become unpredictable. This means:
❌️Missed periods.
❌️Irregular bleeding.
❌️Painful cycles (dysmenorrhea).
For women trying to conceive, this hormonal confusion can make pregnancy harder to achieve.
5. Perfumes don’t only affect your hormones.
🚨Many of their ingredients are harmful to other parts of your body too. Here’s what they can cause:
✍️Headaches: Ever sprayed perfume and instantly felt dizzy or got a headache? That’s likely due to fragrance chemicals irritating your nervous system.
✍️Eye, nose, and throat irritation: These chemicals can trigger sneezing, coughing, or burning sensations in sensitive areas.
✍️Asthma attacks: For people with asthma or sinus issues, perfume can be a serious trigger.
✍️Forgetfulness and nausea: Constant exposure to certain fragrance chemicals can even affect your memory or make you feel sick.
6. How to protect yourself
- Read labels: Look for “phthalate-free” products when buying perfumes or body sprays.
- Switch to natural scents: Choose essential oil-based perfumes or lightly scented products made with natural ingredients.
- Use less perfume: Reduce how often and how much you spray to lower your exposure.
- Ventilate your space: Don’t spray perfume in small, closed rooms to avoid inhaling concentrated chemicals.
