(1/7) I'm not going to do a full trailer breakdown for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film, since we have an early form of the script you can place a lot of things with very little speculation, but want to talk about a few specific things.
Capcom production staff are confirmed to
(2/7) have had a hand in this movie today is the first thing. However, due to an agreement between Capcom, Constantin Films, & Sony, there is no way legally for this or any live-action RE film to be set in the game's universe. This is from a contract Capcom & Constantin signed
(3/7) years ago Capcom staff have actually talked about in the past. There's some differences intentionally, like it snowing & it being a bit more modern is done by intention because it can't be a straight up copy of the games, plus to allow some creative wiggle room.
This was
(4/7) NOT a script made for a generic zombie film then turned Resident Evil, the script was 100% inspired by Resident Evil & made for a RE film, but was originally more legally distinct in case they couldn't get the IP license. When they did, leaned even harder into the RE-isms.
(5/7) This thing coming out of the door in the trailer is a single B.O.W., it's not multiple zombies but a single monster. It's sorta' this movies "stalker enemy", in an early stage since it mutates a lot through the movie.
The big zombie in the sewers personally reminds me of
(6/7) a hybrid of Mr. X from RE:2 & the Fat Tyrant from Dead Aim. I'm not even really convinced it's a Tyrant, RE does just have big zombies like the fat zombie from RE6, but in its appearance it made me think of them.
There's a lot of Easter Eggs, references, callbacks to the
(7/7) games (many hidden for now), inventory management plays part in the film, fixed camera bits, cinematography & choreography made to mimic the games, etc.
If you haven't watched IGN interview & breakdown with Cregger on the trailer, I recommend it:
