The first reinforcements where supposed to arrive by IL-76. According to Ukraine, they shot down two IL-76 loaded with VDV troops, there was never a wreckage found to support Ukraines claims. Russias version was that the weather conditions where to bad to perform the task so 6/20
It turned out that UA special forces where waiting in this town for the VDV reinforcement that they had intel on where on their way. This is also where we saw some of the brutal footage of dead VDV. The battle for this town was won at 27th of February 13/20
but some VDV troops got through it at 26th to reinforce the VDV stuck at Gostomel airport. Simultaneously a second wave of air transport was launched by RU when they learned of the resistance at Ivankiv. 38 hours after the initial airdrop, reinforcements finally arrived. 14/20
The hardest part to confirm is the numbers. While Ukraine claims to have killed a majority of the VDV at the airport, some with sources on the inside the VDV claim around 25 KIA at the airport itself, not counting Ivankiv battle. RU also claims 200 UA KIA. 18/20
