The authors discuss various benefits of prebiotics & probiotics as well as supplements for osteoarthritis (OA), osteoporosis, fracture healing, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and chemotherapy-induced arthralgia (joint pain)
🚨Important to note: These interventions may work, but they are no substitute to fixing your diet by eating wholesome foods🚨
The general principle is basically appreciating that pathogens and their metabolites in the gut can lead to ⬆️gut permeability (“leaky gut”) with a subsequent inflammatory immune response
Let’s start with osteoarthritis (OA)
Lactobacillus casei has been found to be helpful in ⬇️pain & ha-CRP (inflammation marker) in a placebo-controlled, double-blinded RCT
Freeze-dried strawberries 🍓, blueberries 🫐 have also been found helpful in OA in RCTs

In Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), omega-3 supplements (flaxseed & fish🐟 oils) have been found helpful in ⬇️inflammation. Others include sesamin (derived from sesame), saffron, and garlic 🧄
Keep in mind, most n-3 supplements are oxidized. Eat the real thing (fatty, cold 🌊 wild 🐟)

Also helpful in RA, a Cretan Mediterranean diet is helpful when compared to a Westen diet
