Incorrect diagnosis imo.
First, a critical clarification needs to be made: RW is a non native ideology and doesn't represent Indic thought. Rather, thinking along those lines is destructive of our ways.

The quest for public intellectuals is a hollow one, resulting from our subconscious imitation of the West. One reading of the book 'Eminent intellectuals' by Arun Shourie is enough to expose the intellect and duplicity of those regarded as subject authorities previously.
The quoted tweet actually uses a particular word which is very apt. That keyword is 'platform'. The questions which should be asked first then are: what platform, why platform and whose platform? It is very clear that the duplicitous "sophisticated" intellectuals were patronised.
The colonizer's State patronised those who could twist facts to suit their narrative. Simple investigation exposes them. The word sophiticated itself comes from Sophistry, which means the use of literary ability to obfuscate and confound.
To think that defeating sophists through better arguements will bring change is missing the forest for the trees. As we know now, the current world order is selectively blind, facts dnt mtr
Now coming to the crux of the argument as to why this approach is destructive of our way.

What is our view of education? For us, education is a character building tool, firstly and lastly. By prizing talent and intelligence through this way, inadvertently we would repeat the same mistake of holding information in higher regard than embodying values.
In this land, even a cobbler could decline a king by saying:
"एकई मोरो राम नाम धन एकई मोरी आशा
उ धन ईंहे, ई चलीजाइए न चाहे भकत रविदासा"
The sacred agency of the individual, dignity of the poor and virtue of humility is unrecognized if prestige and pelf become societal benchmarks.

In my own experience, I have met legendary baul singers sitting on the street with a begging bowl and chanting Hari naam, feeling pure bliss. Similarly, I am certain that there are still multitude of such people all over our beautiful country. Seeking Truth is our aspiration.
That is what is our wisdom and that is what will endear the whole of humanity to this culture. If we miss this treasure trove of the divine in our search for intellectuals, then there cannot be a greater tradegy.
