1. It's not your "genes" it's you!
There's no such thing as people who can't lose fat or gain muscle.
If you aren't getting the results.
Then you are:
Using the wrong strategy
Aren't following the strategy properly
Are in need of amending your strategy slighty
2. Track your progress
This doesn't just mean the scale
You want to track as much as possible:
- Body fat %
- Energy levels
- How clothes fit
- Progress pictures
- Strength progress
- Cardiovascular progress
Your weight is only a small representation you have made!
3. Track what you eat
Even if you only do this at the beginning.
Until you are familiar with what clean
500 cals
80g of carbs
50g of protein
Look like, you'll struggle to see the best results if you don't.
Plan meals ahead of time, based on cals & macros to make this easier!
4. Burn fat with diet
If you want to drop body fat, what you eat is the key thing.
Strength training & cardio do play a part.
But it will always be easier to eat less calories to put yourself in calorie deficit.
Than it is to try & exercise yourself into a calorie deficit.
5. High protein meals are critical
If you want to lose fat or gain muscle, high protein consumption is key!
It supports both muscle gain & fat loss.
It fills you up, so you eat far less junk.
You want approximately 1g of protein to lbs of bodyweight.
6. Carbs 1 hour before lifting
Fast digesting carbs 1 hour before you lift, will give higher strength and endurance.
So think:
Banana
Potatoes
Sweet potatoe
1 Tbsp of honey
Whole carbs will shelp you build muscle.
7. Train weakest muscle groups 1st
We all want to avoid our weaknesses.
You must fight this temptation though.
By not addressing muscle imbalances you only increase your risk of injury & you physically look worse.
We've all seen guys who skip leg day, not a look you want!
8. Train legs 3 times a week
Training legs should be the most important part of your program regardless of goal.
With stronger legs comes:
- Lower body fat
- Lower injury risk
- Greater athleticism
- Greater overall muscle mass
Hit them 3X a week for ultimate results!
9. Deload week every 12- 15 weeks
A deload week is simply a week where you train the same but with lowered lifting volume and intensity.
Deloads help you see
Lowered injury risk
Higher muscle mass gain
Stronger central nervous system
So include these in your training program.
10. Get accountability
- Write down goals
- Find an accountability partner
- Work with a coach who will hold you accountable
Having external accountability will make it so much easier for you to show up daily.
They will remind of you your "why" & what you are doing this for!
