"How did you grow from 1k to 8k followers in 2 months?"
Got this question a lot this week.
My answer:
I followed the exact same playbook I used when I first started freelance writing/editing:
Hustled HARD.
I've always believed if you want something:
-Hustle hard at the start
-Earn your place
-Become an authority
-Slow down
-Enjoy it
Hustle hard at start ≠ Hustle culture
By hustled hard I mean,
I wrote a thread every day for 30 days straight.
Plus engaged like crazy on my own posts + other ppl's.
It was hard but FUN bc:
-It was for me (noone forced me)
-It was a new/creative challenge
-I provided tons of value
What I mean by value...
Philosophy: Provide value or get out.
I'm a content writer & editor, so I leaned in on teaching people how to be better writers & editors.
Quality content that helps people help themselves wins.
This is content marketing 101.
Provide value --> Build trust --> Grow an audience
But I was also authentically me.
I bring my personality to my posts.
I write stupid jokes.
I talk about my tiny dog.
I don't use clickbait to draw people in with hooks that make you want to vomit.
That DOES work (easy wins).
But it's not me. I like hard wins.
I also pay attention to structure.
The way you write a thread is totally different to the way you write longer form.
The principles are the same, but the line by line structure is different.
I explain this in detail here:
And if you're a new follower, I created a mega thread featuring my top hits from that 30 day thread challenge.
This will help you communicate more effectively online:
I hope this helps you grow your own audience more effectively.
