Growing up I was never in great shape.
I was chunky and it became much worse once I got to college:
- I had zero confidence
- I was drinking 4-5 days a week
- I didn't take my physical or mental health seriously.

One day, I had a wake up call.
If I didn't change my current life path I was going to end up like my father.
My father was an alcoholic, lived an unhealthy lifestyle, and died of a heart attack when I was in high school.
I realized this was not the path for me.

It was time to get my health in order.
I had previously worked out and was careful about my diet, but I was never able to improve and maintain both at the same time.
I had previously worked out and was careful about my diet, but I was never able to improve and maintain both at the same time.
It was time for a new approach.
I made small changes that I could sustain for life, rather than drastic changes I could maintain for a few weeks.
After a few weeks, I had more energy.
After a week months, I saw results.
After a year, I had a body I was proud of.

Health & fitness were finally making sense to me.
All the pieces of the puzzle were coming together.
Here are the 5 life lessons that have made improving my health easy:

Here are the 5 life lessons that have made improving my health easy:
Lesson #1 - Your habits & systems are everything.
"If successful and unsuccessful people share the same goals, then the goal cannot be what differentiates the winners from the losers." - James Clear
Your future success is based on your current habits and systems.

Here's how you build better habits:
1. Make it repeatable (do these daily for a month)
2. Enjoyable (reward yourself upon completion)
3. Easy (Lower the amount of effort needed to complete)

Example:
Habit: Exercising daily
Repeatable: Go for a walk (daily)
Enjoyable: After a walk ā reward yourself with an episode of your favorite show.
Easier: It doesn't have to be on a treadmill. Make it a hike with your partner or dog. Something you'll look forward to.

Lesson #2 - Fitness is the catalyst for personal growth.
For 99% of people, when they improve their fitness they begin to see improvement in other aspects of their life.
Keep this in mind when you're just getting started.

Lesson #3 - Do the simple things well.
This is the main reason why people fail with weight loss.
You worry too much about the little things and don't spend enough time doing the simple things that move the lever the most.

The simple things for fitness:
- Hydration
- Caloric intake
- Lifting Weights
- Walking/Cardio
- High protein diet
If you only focus on these things and do them well, you'll see results.

Lesson #4 - Make it easy
This is mentioned in lesson #1, but it's so important it needs its own lesson.
If you can't make weight loss easy, you can't make it sustainable.

If you can't make weight loss easy, you can't make it sustainable.
90% of people fail with weight loss because their willpower and motivation run out.
You need to make health & fitness easy and enjoyable.

How to make eating healthy easy:
1. Make a menu of 4-5 meals you enjoy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
2. If they are healthy, keep them.
3. If they aren't, find ways to make them healthier.
4. Rotate these meals as needed.

How to make exercise enjoyable:
1. Try different training methods & programs.
2. Find a form of cardio you enjoy (walking, hiking, playing soccer, etc).
Worry less about what is 'optimal' and worry more about doing something you enjoy and can sustain for more than a week.

Lesson #5 - Value small consistent wins
There will be times when you won't see daily improvement, especially on your fat loss journey.
Slow progress is inevitable.
Focus on long term health benefits over short term physical changes.

In two weeks you won't look like a new person.
But you will have:
- more energy
- improved sleep
- increased performance
- lost a couple of pounds
Focus on these aspects and the scale will follow.
