[Story]
I almost fired my online trainer even though he was good.
I was getting great results.
He was doing everything he should have been doing. I just didn't know it.
And that was the problem . . .
All trainers should work with trainers.
I'd known Jack for years and hired him.
We talked about my goals, he spoke to my chiro, and wrote me a stellar plan.
Then, I executed.
Weeks passed and I got frustrated . . .
He'd check in, I'd say things were good.
Then, after 8 weeks, I called him, planning to fire him because he didn't change my program once in two months.
(What he said stopped in my tracks . . . )
"You're doing great bro!" He began.
"I'm looking at your weekly check-ins. You're making great progress week after week. I don't want to change your program because it's working so well."
Fucking right.
He's. Fucking. Right.
Just because some arbitrary measure of time has passed, it doesn't necessitate a new program.
Progression must be based on adaptation.
In this case, I was still adapting. Changing the program was ill-advised.
If I was bored, that wouldn't been a different story. I wasn't.
When it comes to fitness programming, often no action is the right action.
If something is working, you do not need to 'change it up.'
I knew this to be true, yet I still almost fired him.
(Here's what he should have done though . . .)
"Hey bro.
I've been looking at your check-ins. Your progress is great.
If you're bored, I can vary it a bit. But, if not, I want to keep it the same because it's working so well."
