Self witnessing changed my life.
Here’s how you can practice it to change your own
A THREAD 🧵:
Self witnessing is the act of objectively viewing yourself.
You can think of it as watching yourself from a wider perspective.
Witnessing your thoughts, witnessing your behaviors, witnessing how you react to emotions, and witnessing how you interact.
Notice this is different from self analyzing— where you’re stuck in constant though replaying everything you say & do (usually in a critical way.)
Self witnessing means being then neutral observer.
When you’re curious about what you do & why you do it, you become aware of your patterns.
This process will help you bring unconscious thoughts & behaviors to your conscious mind.
It’s through self witnessing that we gain self awareness.
Self awareness creates: closer relationships, the ability to find healthy coping skills, the ability to know what your needs are, and access to problem solving.
Many of us are unconscious to our motivation & behaviors.
As we witness ourselves, we meet ourselves.
This will be a massive change for people raised in codependent homes where the focus is always on: what other people, think, feel, and how they are perceiving us.
With self witnessing, the focus becomes the only thing we are actually in control of:
OURSELVES.
