Mega thread about supplements.
Which are not a scam and have a good return of investment money wise, what they can help you with and which ones to avoid.
Standard disclaimer that this does not constitute medical advice.
Before we begin, one of the most important things to understand when it comes to supplements, is to be aware of which substances lead to deficiencies and exactly which ones in order to treat them effectively.
Here's the main list:
1)Stimulants: Electrolytes, B5 , calcium, vitamin C
2)Statins: CoQ10, vitamin D, vitamin B12, vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin B9 and vitamin K (both K1 and K2).
3)Alcohol: B vitamins, electrolytes
4)Chemotherapy drugs: All B vitamins and vitamin K
5)Birth control: Folic acid, vitamins B2, B6, B12, vitamin C, vitamin, magnesium, selenium and zinc.
6)Antipsychotics and antidepressants: B vitamins, vitamin K, vitamin D and CoQ10.
7)Metformin: B vitamins (especially B1, B3 and B12)
Now, for most people (most, don't confuse my words), there are natural solutions for all the above substances without side effects.
For example, instead of stimulants try some ginkgo, creatine or even yerba mate.
Instead of taking statins check your vitamin D levels and thyroid
Now let's move on to the list of supplements.
Supplement #1 ALA
Alpha-lipoic acid is an organic compound in the body that acts as an antioxidant, is present in mitochondria and helps enzymes turn nutrients into energy.
ALA can help you with :
1. Lowering CRP levels
2. High blood sugar
3. Oxidative stress
4. High LDL
5. High triglycerides
6. Protectong the brain and CNS
7. Detoxifing mercury from the brain
8. Reducing iron in tissues
9. Optimizing NAD:NADH
even in doses as low as 200mg.
Supplement #2 Pregnenolone (P5) under very stressfull periods but with added 30-40 grams of beef liver.
Pregnenolone is what is called the β€œmother hormone” and is the raw material for producing many of the steroid and protective hormones such as DHEA and progesterone.
The 30-40 grams of beef liver are added since P5 will greatly increase the body's needs for vitamin A.
This is the reason why many people suffer from severe dandraff or dry skin when taking pregnenolone.
Ideally, you also want to add some coconut oil in this mix.
If used correctly, pregnenolone can help you with :
1. Chronic fatigue
2. Back pain
3. Low libido
4. Depression
5. Multiple sclerosis
6. Eczema
7. PMS
8. Reverse some skin aging
9. Cholesterol issues
10. Blood sugar regulation
11. Neurological recovery
at even 30-50 mg per week.
Supplement #3 DHEA (under extreme stress or if soeone is over 35)
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a hormone that our bodies naturally produce mainly in the adrenal gland and helps in the production of other hormones such as testosterone and progesterone.
Careful DHEA supplementation can help you with:
1. Preventing or even treating neurological diseases
2. Protect the thyroid
3. Optimize androgens
4. Lower stress
5. Treat insomnia
6. Strengthening the skin
7. Improving osteoporosis and arthritis
8. Lower estrogen
9. Lower unbound iron
10. Protect you against cancer
11. Treat T2D
12. Protect the thymus gland
13. Restore fertility
14. Treat depression and anxiety
But your first priority when it comes to DHEA should be pregnenolone and optimizing your thyroid performance.
Supplement #4 NAC ( N-acetyl cysteine)
NAC can be a wonderful supplement if a person's amino acid profile is balanced since NAC comes from the amino acid L-cysteine.
NAC (with glycine and glutamine) can help your body replenish glutathione and regulate brain glutamate levels.
NAC can help you with:
1.Mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and OCD
2. Recovering from substance abuse
3. Protecting your liver, heart and brain
4. Boosting fertility
5. Supporting your immune system
6. Stabilizing blood sugar
7. Improving eyesight
Supplement #5: Liquid vitamin D + MK7 + 50 gr of beef liver combo.
Most people despite the fact that are out in the sun are D vitamin deficient since they a) have gut issues probably b)wear sunscreen (+they have some other specific deficiencies such as a boron deficiency).
Targeted vitamin D supplementantion with K and beef liver for the vitamin A can be a wonderfull tool for many.
This combo can help :
1. Prevent autoimmune diseases
2. Prevent muscle waste
3. Steroid driven hair loss
4. Treat depression
5. Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes
6. Low testosterone
7. Calcium absorption
8. Support the immune system
9. Fight allergies
10. Crohn's disease
11. MS
12. Rheumatoid arthritis
13. Dry skin
14. Acne
15. Asthma
16. Gut healing
Supplements #6 and #7: Glutamine and glycine.
Despite me mentioning these as "supplements", don't supplement, simply drink homemade quality bone broth.
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in our bodies. It works to support many health functions such as :
1. Making proteins for muscle tissue.
2. Fueling cells that protect our intestines.
3. Support immune system cells.
4. Helping detoxifying the liver.
Glycine helps our bodies break down glycogen, fat and micronutrients that help:
1. Muscle repair
2. CNS recovery
Supplement #8: B1 (thiamine)+ B2 (riboflavin) + B3 (niacinamide) combo.
B vitamins which are a class of water soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism and synthesis of red blood cells.
The B vitamins can help you with:
1. Carb metabolism
2. Preventing infections
3. CNS function
4. Brain function
5. Fatigue (both CNS related and muscle related)
6. Digestion
7. Age related steroid deficiency
8. Cholesterol levels
9. Cardiovascular health
10. Eyesight
11. Acne/Eczema
12. Aging caused by chronic fasting
13. Treat lymphoma
14. Depression
15. Anemia
16. Muscle weakness
17. Digestive issues
18. Preventing cancer
19. Treating huntington disease
20. Hair loss
Why we use these 3 together:
Supplement #9 Magnesium (just not oxide)
Magnesium is the fourth most abundant mineral in the human body and it’s something most people are deficient in.
During digestion, three primary digestive enzymes turn food into nutrients that can be absorbed and assimilated by the body
and magnesium plays a role in numerous enzyme systems throughout the body.
Magnesium directs excessive calcium outside the cell, promoting relaxation in the stressed areas.
Magnesium also lowers SHBG levels and therefore it can increase free testosterone.
Every form of magnesium tends to go to a specific tissue (for example glycinate has a preference for
muscle tissue) it is in fact better to use different chelates as well from time to time.
Magnesium can help you:
1.Improve sleep
2.Digestion
3.Muscle and CNS recovery
4. Increasing free testosterone
5. Protect you against nnEMF
6. Protect your heart and bones
7. Regulate blood pressure and volume
Supplement #10 Taurine
Taurine has important functions in the heart and brain and it helps support nerve growth.
The main roles of taurine in your body are:
1)Maintaining proper hydration and electrolyte balance in your cells
2)Forming bile salts, which play an important role
in digestion
3)Regulating minerals such as calcium within your cells
4)Supporting the general function of your central nervous system and eyes
5)Regulating immune system health and antioxidant function
Performance wise, taurine showed in athletes:
1)Increased oxygen uptake by the body
2)Increased time to fatigue
3)Reduced muscle damage
4)Improved recovery times
5) Improved strength and power
Supplement #11 Boron
The element boron is a trace mineral and found in deposits in the earth's crust and sea water.
Boron is typically used to increase free testosterone but it will also help your body in many more biological processes since it helps recycle electrolytes.
Besides these, boron:
a) enhances steroid hormones that prevent calcium loss and bone demineralization
b) regulates vitamin D
c) displaces fluoride from the glands
d) lowers the calcification of the soft tissue.
Supplement #12 Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba (or maidenhair) is a tree native to China that has been grown for thousands of years for a variety of uses.
Because it’s the only surviving member of an ancient order of plants, it’s sometimes referred to as a living fossil.
While its leaves and seeds are often used in traditional Chinese medicine, modern research primarily focuses on ginkgo extract, which is made from the leaves.
It contains high levels of flavonoids and terpenoids, which are compounds known for their strong antioxidant effect.
It also works amazingly against depression and stress while not having the side effects of herbs such as ashwagandha.
