WHAT IS RUSSIAN HOUSEHOLD GARDENING?
This ancient practice of small-scale farming allows Russians to produce a significant proportion of their own food organically, an example I believe we all should follow to break free from the globalist model of food production. 👇
Some amazing facts. In 2004, 35 million Russian households, or 66% of the total, were producing more than 50% of Russia's total agricultural output on JUST 3% of the land under cultivation. That makes this practice 38 times more efficient than Russia's industrial agr. system.
In concrete terms, that meant 92% of all potatoes, 77% of all veg., 87% of all fruit and berries, 53% of all meat, 52% of all milk and 27% of my favourite, EGGS!
Figures are from 2004, because - inexplicably - the best study of the system is a 2008 PhD (link at end).
Now, Russian is an urban nation. 2/3 of the pop lives in towns or cities, yet millions of urbanites travel out into the countryside to tend small plots of land, just like rural dwellers.
The roots of this system stretch right back to the earliest days of Russian history.
It's not an exaggeration to say that Russia avoided a famine during the collapse of the USSR precisely because an alternative local system of food production existed when the industrial system started to collapse.
Household gardening has many benefits. Besides allowing access to the best quality organic food, it reduces food inflation, increases national food security, provides health benefits from hard work and recreational benefits for families and communities.
Produce is regularly exchanged among local neighbours, creating happier communities. There is also a deeper, spiritual, aspect which helps foster a sense of rooting in the soil of Mother Russia. This has become the basis of a new spiritual movement known as Anastasia.
Anastasia combines pagan Slavic and Russian Orthodox beliefs with household gardening to create a national spiritual vocation rooted in cultivation of the land. The movement advocates the creation of self-sufficient rural settlements as the primary economic unit of the nation.
My belief is that we need to pay close attention to this ancient practice of household gardening. A modern industrial nation can meet its food needs through local small-scale agriculture. We shouldn't believe the globalists and their claims about the "inevitable" future of food.
The Great Reset plan for a plant-based future is the worst aspects of the present model of agriculture, without the animals. Instead of surrendering control of the food supply to corporations, who don't give a damn about our health or the environment, we need to take it back.
Russian household gardening, as well as the broader movement for regenerative agriculture, is essential to my vision of The Eggs Benedict Option.
And the system is alive and well, as this 2016 National Geographic article shows. FIN.
