Acceptable fabrics:
- Silk
- Linen
- Hemp
- Cotton
- Leather
- Cashmere
- Sheep wool
- Alpaca wool
Unacceptable fabrics:
- Pretty much everything else (bc they're all made of plastic)
Modern synthetic fabrics trace their origins back to the chemical industry, namely: DuPont
During the interwar period, DuPont had a hard time finding a market for their primary business (manufacturing dynamite)
So they started peddling their chemicals to a new market: consumers
In quick succession starting in the 1930s, DuPont developed Nylon, Polyester, and Spandex
All of these "fabrics" are actually just petroleum derived plastic, and were released to great fanfare to an unsuspecting public
Why is this bad?
For starters, the very idea of swaddling your soft skin in synthetic plastic should cause great seething on it's own
But in case that's not enough:
- Men wearing polyester underwear show a decreased sperm count, sometimes reaching 0
- Cleaning plastic clothes spits microplastic particles into the atmosphere
- These then absorb through your skin and lungs, which can damage your DNA and wreck your endocrine system
