We live in a technological world
Most people spend hours looking at a screen each day for both work and social pleasures...
Americans spend an average of 8 hours/day looking at screens
This puts huge stress on our necks, muscles and joints, with what we call 'Tech Neck'
When on a computer or looking down at your phone, the muscles in the back of the neck have to contract to hold your head up.
These muscles can get tired and sore from looking down at our smartphones, and working on our computers all day.
That is what then creates “tech neck.”
Risks of Tech Neck:
• Spasms
• Back pain
• Headaches
• Stiff Necks
• Nerve issues
• Shoulder pain
• Spine damage
• Chronic back pain
Thankfully strength training has been shown to reduce chronic neck pain
1. Weighed Shrugs
Benefits:
• Improved posture
• Upper back stability
• Neck muscle stability
• Trapezius muscle stability
• Increased shoulder strength
• Increased neck muscle strength
• Increased upper back muscle strength
• Reduced strain on shoulder and neck muscles
2. Upright Rows
An effective exercise to build strength in the shoulders and upper back.
It develops and strengthens your posterior chain (specifically trapezius muscles) which provide support to your neck.
You can use weights or a resistance band
3. One Arm Row
Benefits:
• Reduce chronic pain
• Builds a strong back
• You will bend, lift, and carry more effortlessly
• Strengthens your shoulders, upper arms, and core
These benefits will help you perform many everyday activities with greater ease and less discomfort
4. Lateral Raise
Benefits:
• Help increase your shoulder mobility, range of motion, and stability.
• Helps you become better at activities like lifts and presses
• Reduces acute and chronic neck pain
