How to avoid burnout.
The 7 Commandments of Consistency:
πŸ“œ Thou shall get all types of rest
1. Physical rest - sleep
2. Mental rest - meditate
3. Social rest - time with loved ones
4. Spiritual rest - volunteer
5. Sensory rest - turn off electronics
6. Emotional rest - speak to a friend
7. Creative rest - enjoy music/books/etc.
πŸ“œ Thou shall not work every day
Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays.
Last I checked, they're doing ok.
Working every day is not a badge of honorβ€”it's a sign that you need to improve your systems.
πŸ“œ Thou shall prioritize quality sleep
πŸ”΄ 6 hours before bed
- no caffeine
🟠 3 hours before bed
- no food or drink
🟑 1 hour before bed
- no work
🟒 In bed
- no phone
πŸ”΅ One-time changes
- dark/cold bedroom
- sleep around the same time each day
- invest in a good pillow
πŸ“œ Thou shall eliminate, automate, and delegate
Cost of task outweighs the benefit
--> Eliminate
Repetitive task that doesn't require brain power
--> Automate
Task can be done effectively by someone else
--> Delegate
πŸ“œ Thou shall "Time Block"
Multitasking is a one-way ticket to burnout.
Single-tasking is king.
Utilize time-blocking to stick to your important tasks for an established period of time.
Literally set a timer, start working, and don’t switch until it finishes.
πŸ“œ Thou shall not say "yes" to everything
Saying "yes" too much is the fastest way to give up control of your life.
Tap into the power of β€œNO”.
Set clear boundariesβ€”stick to them.
Take your time back.
πŸ“œ Thou shall eat well and exercise
"A healthy mind cannot exist without a healthy body."
Small changes that go a long way:
- Get a standing desk
- Cook meals ahead of time
- Take periodic 10 minute walks throughout the day
How to avoid burnout:
TL;DR
1. Get all 7 types of rest
2. Don't work every day
3. Prioritize quality sleep
4. Eliminate, automate, and delegate
5. "Time Block"
6. Stop saying "yes" to everything
7. Eat well and exercise
That's a wrap!
