Been curating my La Paz trip footage. Huge shoutout to @lukeinman and his amazing staff. If anyone is planning a dive trip to La Paz, Luke runs the best outfit there.
And now I present to you my first Photo Essay.

Day 1: Los Islotes, Sea Lion Colony
This was one of the most incredible dive experiences I’ve ever had. Dog lovers will instantly appreciate how playful and puppy-like these beautiful creatures are.
#LosIslotes #SeaLionColony
We got very lucky that day. These pups were super playful and interactive; they kept following us and nipping at our fins.
I followed one curious pup into a small cave, where I got an incredibly clear closeup. If it weren’t for the red soldierfish behind him, you’d almost think it was out-of-water.
Day 2: Swanee / Corrolito
Visibility wasn’t great due to windiness and time of year, but I still found some cool critters to photograph.
Day 3: Whale Shark Snorkel
Next, we did something that’s been on my Bucket List a LONG TIME — we snorkeled with Whale Sharks, the largest fish in the world (can get up to 65’ and live 130 years).
Viz wasn’t great due to plankton-rich water, but who cares!?
#LaPaz #WhaleSharks
Kudos to the Mexican gov for limiting boats for these close encounters. You’re only allowed to snorkel at the surface and stay 6’ away at all times.
We encountered 3 whale sharks, the largest being 18-20’ in length. I could barely keep up, and he was just “swimming casual”!
Day 4: Los Islotes / San Juan de la Costa
We went back to the Sea Lion Colony, but this time viz was horrendous, and the sea lions weren’t playing much. We hired a spotter plane for the rest of the day and spotted dolphins — and a momma humpback and her baby!
Although we missed out on a couple days due to port closures from high winds, this was an amazing trip and a great way to end 2022!
Here are some video highlights of our dive at the Sea Lion Colony in La Paz!

"Our obsession with being informed makes it hard to think long-term. We spend hours consuming news because we want to be informed. The problem is, the news doesn't make us informed - quite the opposite. The more news we consume, the more misinformed we become." -- @farnamstreet
