I started 2022 with 3 Twitter followers.
Here's what I did to end the year with 50,688 new followers: 🧡🧡
🌐 Positioning
Your profile is your landing page.
Most creators gain few followers because they look more like consumers β€” and not creators.
So I fixed mine to look like who I want to attract.
Here's mine (at the time of writing):
🌐 Leveraged larger audiences
Most creators start by tweeting 10x per day. Dumb move.
I had 3 followers. I needed more eyes on my brand. And fast.
I stole those eyes by:
β€’ commenting on large accounts with my target audience
β€’ inviting bigger accounts to Twitter spaces
🌐 Educated my audience
People follow those who give them a reason to (who give value).
So I became the guy who shows up everyday giving it to them (at 0 cost).
I shared:
- Actionable tips
- Inspirational content
- Sometimes… Entertainment
All via Tweets, threads & spaces.
🌐 Telling a story
Most creators are basically "Glorified search engines."
Building an audience isn't 100% about β€œgiving advice”. Its also about sharing more about yourself.
β€’ Share your wins
β€’ List out your mistakes
This makes you hard to forget.
🌐 Taking inspiration
Success leaves clues. Why create from the void when you can model?
In the last 90 days, I took content inspirations from:
- @thedankoe
- @thejustinwelsh
- @ItsKieranDrew
- @thatroblennon
As for tools, I used @TryPostwise a lot.
Check them all out.
🌐 Nurture my audience
Aside stories, I took extra steps here.
β€’ Asking my followers for their POVs
β€’ Inviting space listeners to speak
β€’ Hopping on calls with creators
β€’ Responding to messages
β€’ Replying comments
Reason?
People are attracted to creators who care.
🌐 Solid Relationships
This is cliche for a solid reason.
Over the last 6 months, these minds taught me solid growth and/or life tips:
@thejulieahrens
@TanmayS_Chauhan
@ericasmyname
@thesyedhuq
@sulaiman_botha
@ItsKieranDrew
@giannicara
@abrahamcslls
..amongst others.
🌐 Eliminated what didn't work
Some Twitter growth advice might not work for you (including this one).
This is where your experience shines:
Observe.
Imitate.
Test.
Iterate.
Repeat.
Lean into actions that give high returns and eliminate the others.
🌐 Consistency
Before 2022, I’d never created daily content on social media.
It was normal to suck.
And boy did I suck!
But over time, my writing got better.
And now 50,000+ people are proof of it. Keep going, creator!
The 9 steps I took from 3 to 50.6k followers in 365 days:
β€’ Fixed my positioning
β€’ Leveraged larger audiences
β€’ Educated my audience
β€’ Told a story
β€’ Took Inspiration
β€’ Nurtured my audience
β€’ Created Relationships
β€’ Eliminated defects
β€’ Consistency
I hope this helps.
If this made an atom of sense to you:
1. Consider following the nerd who made it happen (@francis_oleh)
