How I stopped living in denial of who I was to be more at peace with myself:
Inside of all of us, are many different aspects of who we are.
We have parts of us that are empathetic, petty, jealous, narcissistic, compassionate, childish, joyful, wise, creative, and everything in-between.
I loved claim my "good" parts.
We all do.
I struggled to accept the parts of myself that I didn't like.
This only created a conflict within in me.
And a need to self protect.
To wear a mask, and to hide from the pasts of me I didn't want to face.
When I started healing, I stopped assigning good or bad or black and white thinking to my behaviors.
I thought of them as survival adaptations. And I viewed them with curiosity.
When I was being petty and ridiculous, I just noticed.
When I was being jealous and insecure, I just noticed.
When I was being self absorbed, narcissistic, or self consumed, I just noticed.
When I was looking outside of myself for a sense of validation or self worth, I just noticed.
This was usually came from younger part of myself trying to meet some need. Or trying to be heard.
And that's ok.
There is not a human being alive who is one dimensional.
We're a complex mix of: emotions, behaviors, and we all hurt people along our journey.
We love to think we are either good or bad, our greatest fear is that we're a "bad" person.
The more we believe we're this "bad" person, the more we project our fears an insecurities onto others.
When we abandon or reject parts of ourselves, we'll see those parts of ourselves in everyone else.
Until we face them in Self.
When we create space for the parts of ourselves that are shamed-filled, we create peace for ourselves.
We find a level of humility. Facing the dark parts of yourself will do that. Running from them will keep you within your ego.
I found all sorts of things within myself that I don't love.
I found a bunch of traits that were at conflict with each other. Tons of my flaws, and tons of gems.
I found I'm many different things.
This is what it is to be human.
